In another shocking incident involving a minor, a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her maternal uncle in Kolkata’s Lake Town area. The accused has been arrested, according to police sources.
Doctors notice signs of sexual assault
According to sources, the girl, a resident of Dakshindari under the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, fell ill on Thursday. Her family members took her to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where doctors allegedly noticed signs suggestive of sexual assault during a medical examination.
Zero FIR registered, accused arrested
The doctors immediately informed the R.G. Kar Police Outpost, which in turn alerted Tala Police Station. A Zero FIR was registered at Tala Police Station before being transferred to Lake Town Police Station, as the alleged offence falls under its jurisdiction.
Based on the complaint and the preliminary findings, police arrested the girl’s maternal uncle. The child is currently undergoing treatment at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Incident comes a week after Baruipur minor rape and murder
The investigation is underway, and police are awaiting the medical examination report while recording statements from the family and other witnesses.
The incident comes less than a week after the alleged rape and murder of a minor in Baruipur sent shockwaves across West Bengal and triggered widespread protests. The latest case has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of children and women in the state.
