Actor Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan is finally set to release in theatres on 23 July, bringing an end to seven months of uncertainty. The film’s release was delayed due to legal issues and problems related to its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). After overcoming these hurdles, the makers have officially announced the new release date.
On Tuesday, Vijay shared a new poster of the film on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “#JanaNayaganFromJuly23.” The announcement thrilled fans, who have been eagerly waiting for the film. Jana Nayagan is expected to be Vijay’s final film before he begins his full-time political career, making it one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
Production house KVN Productions also confirmed the release date with a powerful message on X. Sharing the new poster, it wrote, “Tested by fire. Forged by time. Built for history. The tougher the battle, the louder the victory.” The post hinted at the challenges the film had faced over the past several months.
The film was originally scheduled to hit theatres on 9 January, ahead of the Pongal festival. However, its release was postponed after legal proceedings related to its censor certificate delayed the process. The matter reached the Madras High Court, leading to multiple hearings before the certification issue was finally resolved.
Recently, the CBFC granted the film an ‘A’ certificate, clearing the way for the makers to announce its worldwide theatrical release on 23 July. With all legal hurdles now behind them, the team has shifted its focus to promoting the film.
According to reports, Sigma, directed by Jason Sanjay, could be pushed from July 31 to August following the announcement of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan release on July 23. The move has reignited buzz around Vijay’s final film and the timing of his son’s directorial debut.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in the lead role alongside Pooja Hegde. The film also features Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain in key roles. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
As the film is widely expected to be Vijay’s farewell to cinema before entering politics, every update has generated huge excitement among fans. With the release date now confirmed, the makers are hoping Jana Nayagan will become one of the biggest theatrical releases of the year.
