For nearly eight years, Antara Sarkar’s life revolved around engineering drawings, structural calculations and construction projects. A graduate of NIT Durgapur, she had built a steady career as a civil structural engineer, following a path that appeared secure and predictable.
But at 29, Sarkar has taken a very different route. After her engineering, she up-skilled herself at Scaler.
Engineering career paved way for change
Today, she is the founder of Vedaz.io, a technology-driven spirituality platform that reaches more than two lakh users daily. Her journey from engineer to entrepreneur, however, was far from straightforward. It involved stepping away from a stable profession, learning entirely new skills, and balancing the demands of motherhood while building a business from the ground up.
Startup dream emerged beyond engineering
When Sarkar launched Vedaz.io, she quickly discovered a challenge familiar to many non-technical founders. While she had a vision for the platform, the technical aspects of product development remained largely dependent on others. Every feature, design change, or technical decision required consultation with developers and co-founders.
Instead of remaining dependent on others, she decided to learn the technology herself.

Data insights transformed platform growth
The decision came at a particularly demanding phase of her life. While expecting her first child, Sarkar enrolled in technical training programmes to understand software development, data engineering and machine learning. After becoming a mother, she continued learning while simultaneously managing her startup and caring for her newborn.
What began as an effort to better understand her own product soon transformed the way she approached business.
Founder story inspires aspiring entrepreneurs
With a stronger grasp of technology and analytics, Sarkar started studying user behaviour more closely and identifying opportunities for growth. Rather than relying heavily on paid promotions, she shifted the platform’s focus toward an organic growth strategy driven by data and business insights.
The impact was dramatic.
According to the company, daily impressions on Vedaz.io increased from around 2,000 to more than 2 lakh, significantly expanding its reach without a matching rise in advertising expenditure.

Daily reach crossed two lakh users
Today, the platform is evolving into an AI-powered astrology and spirituality ecosystem, combining personalised digital experiences with traditional spiritual practices.
Sarkar’s story reflects a growing trend within India’s startup ecosystem, where founders are increasingly choosing to build technical expertise themselves rather than outsource critical knowledge. For many entrepreneurs, understanding technology is no longer limited to developers; it is becoming a key leadership skill.
For Antara Sarkar, the transition from civil engineering to entrepreneurship was not part of a long-term plan. Yet her willingness to learn, adapt and rebuild her skillset during one of the most demanding periods of her life has helped turn a small startup idea into a platform used by lakhs of people every day.
