The central government has issued fresh directions to all states, Union Territories and central ministries regarding the National Anthem and the National Song.
The Ministry said the existing rules already specify the occasions on which the National Anthem and the National Song must be sung or played, as well as the events where they may be performed.
According to the new directions, if both are presented at the same event, the National Song must be performed first, followed by the National Anthem. In states that also have a state song, the prescribed order must be followed.
The Ministry also said that the original lyrics, correct pronunciation and approved manner of presentation of both the National Anthem and the National Song must be strictly observed.
All states have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the existing rules. To help avoid errors, the official text and correct pronunciation of both have been made available on the Ministry’s website. A letter outlining these directions was sent to all states and central ministries on 9 July.
This is a developing story and is being updated.
