The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) informed the Supreme Court that the investigation involving the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, will be completed by October this year. The court will hear the matter on October 12. The incident had resulted in the death of over 260 people.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured that the probe is being conducted under international protocols with experts from affected countries. The court was hearing a plea filed by the pilot’s father and the Federation of Indian Pilots.

Air India compensated most affected families

Air India said on Thursday that it has provided interim compensation of ₹25 lakh each to 96% of the families affected by the Ahmedabad crash. The remaining cases are pending due to incomplete documentation or ongoing family disputes.

The airline also said that 94% of those injured on the ground have received compensation, either in full or through interim payments. Some affected individuals have collected claim forms but have yet to submit them.

To support victims and their families, Tata Sons established the AI171 Memorial and Welfare Trust. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran had announced financial assistance of ₹1 crore for the family of every person who died in the crash. According to the company, 91% of eligible families have already received the full amount. Read More
