West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday inaugurated a dedicated police grievance control room at the state secretariat, introducing five toll-free helpline numbers to address complaints related to policing, corruption and administrative issues.

Four helpline numbers target corruption complaints

The newly launched helplines will allow police personnel and citizens to report specific complaints. The numbers include 155335 for syndicate-related complaints, 155334 for cut-money complaints, 155337 for illegal road tax and extortion complaints, and 155339 for complaints related to illegal liquor trade. The Chief Minister said grievances received through the control room would be forwarded to the concerned departments for time-bound action.

Police welfare receives major financial boost

Addressing police personnel, Adhikari said the government was taking several initiatives to restore the image of the West Bengal Police after what he described as years of institutional decline under the previous government.

Government promises infrastructure and vehicle upgrades

He also highlighted the state’s shortage of police infrastructure, comparing it with Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to Adhikari, West Bengal Police faces a shortage of personnel, infrastructure and government support.

The Chief Minister further claimed that insurance coverage for many state police vehicles had lapsed because most of the vehicles were more than 15 years old. He said the government would take immediate steps to procure new vehicles to ensure officers and constables are adequately protected.

Seventh Pay Commission rollout announced soon

Adhikari also announced the constitution of the 7th Pay Commission for state government employees, saying its recommendations are expected to be implemented in the coming months.

In a major welfare announcement, the Chief Minister said the monthly ration allowance for West Bengal Police personnel has been increased by ₹500, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of the police force.
