The monsoon has now covered the entire country, but the latest weather pattern has raised concerns. Satellite images from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) show that the monsoon is currently most active over central India, with dense cloud cover across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and the northeastern states.

In contrast, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and parts of western India have much less cloud cover, and rainfall is expected to remain limited over the next few days.

Meanwhile, Super Typhoon Bavi, which has formed over the Pacific Ocean near the Philippines, is moving towards Taiwan and China. Although the storm is thousands of kilometres away, its effects are being felt as far as the Bay of Bengal, around 3,000–4,000 km from its centre.

Weather experts say that until the typhoon moves inland over China, no new rain-bearing system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal.

As a result, rainfall may decrease across many parts of India after the next two days, with widespread rain likely to return only after about a week.
