Another shocking alleged gang rape has emerged from South Kolkata’s Thakurpukur area, where a 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by one of her friends, while two others were arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident. Three persons have been arrested in connection with an alleged gang rape case reported from Kolkata’s Thakurpukur area, police said on Sunday.
Main accused booked for alleged rape
According to police, the case was registered at Thakurpukur Police Station based on the signed statement of a 22-year-old woman.
The complainant alleged that between 2 am and 2.30 am on July 12, the main accused, identified as Tinku, raped her without her consent at his residence in Bachar Para. She further alleged that another accused, Koushik, disrobed her and inappropriately touched her, outraging her modesty. The woman also accused Babai, along with the other two accused, of dishonestly retaining her mobile phone.
Police arrest all three accused immediately
Police have arrested all three accused and recovered the victim’s mobile phone.
According to the investigation so far, the complainant and the main accused were friends, and she had visited his house on the night of July 11. Police said the other two accused, who are friends of Tinku, arrived at the house on the morning of July 12.
Victim’s phone recovered during police investigation
Police said that, at this stage of the probe, the direct role of the two co-accused in the alleged sexual assault has not been established. However, the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the role of each accused.
Police added that the complainant had also visited Netaji Nagar Police Station earlier to lodge a complaint regarding her missing mobile phone before the present case was registered.
