Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects worth ₹18,000 crore, including the Bhogapuram airport.
During the visit, he inspected the facilities at the Bhogapuram airport, which has been designed in the style of traditional Chuttillu cottages. The airport, officially named Alluri Sitarama Raju Airport, has been built in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district at a cost of around ₹5,000 crore.
Addressing a gathering after a roadshow to the venue, the Prime Minister said, “Earlier, airports in the country were named after only one family. Our government has changed that tradition.”
Later in the day, at around 3:30 pm, Modi will travel to Mysuru, Karnataka, where he will inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre–Vivek Memorial at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama.

Key features of Bhogapuram Airport
- Built by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Ltd under the PPP model across 2,703.26 acres.
- Designed to handle 6 million passengers annually in the first phase, with plans to expand capacity to 40 million passengers.
- Equipped with a 3,800-metre Code E runway, capable of handling large aircraft such as the Boeing 777, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A330, and Airbus A340.
- Expected to boost development, tourism, investment, and defence infrastructure in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam.
