RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday that marriage is a discipline that upholds dharma, while describing live-in relationships as a modern alternative that, in his view, lacks responsibility.
Questioning the consequences of such relationships, Bhagwat said people today “want happiness without responsibility”. He added that in a live-in relationship, people stay together for as long as they wish and separate when they no longer want to remain together.
“There is no responsibility in this. What grows from it, and what is happening in the world because of it, can be seen all around,” he said.
Bhagwat made the remarks while addressing an event on ‘Contemporary Motherhood’, organised by the Vishwa Mangalya Sabha in Hyderabad.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said today’s generation, particularly Gen Z, is often driven by emotion and imitation rather than calm and careful thinking.
Speaking about the LGBTQ community, Bhagwat said they are a part of society and should not be looked down upon. He stressed that they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
Bhagwat stresses family dialogue and disciplined mobile phone use
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat urged parents to promote disciplined use of mobile phones and said regular conversations within families are essential to address the concerns of the younger generation and resolve family issues.
Speaking further about the LGBTQ community, Bhagwat said such people have always existed in society. He said some individuals are born that way due to natural or congenital factors, while others may develop different identities or orientations later because of psychological or physical factors.
He added that since such people exist across the world, it would be incorrect to suggest they have never existed in India.
“Such people have always existed in our society, and our tradition has accepted their existence,” Bhagwat said.
