NATIONAL
1. Paper Leak Amendment Bill to be presented in Lok Sabha today
- On 27 July, the Central Government will introduce the Paper Leak Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.
- This bill is an amendment to the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2026.
- It will be introduced by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
- According to the new amendment, it will be mandatory to complete the investigation of paper leak cases within a maximum of 2 months.
- According to the new amendment, cases will be heard in fast track courts, so that a decision can be made within approximately 3 months of filing the chargesheet.
- There will be a provision for rigorous imprisonment of up to 10 years for those guilty of involvement in paper leaks and organized examination fraud.
- According to the new amendment, a proposal will also be made to impose heavy financial penalties (fines) on the guilty.
- There will also be provisions for strict action against examination centers, service providers, and institutions involved in paper leaks.
- The central government will also be able to constitute a special task force when needed.
- The objective of this law is to restore transparency, accountability, and students’ trust in examinations.
- Recently, questions were raised about the credibility of the examination system after alleged paper leak cases related to NEET-UG 2026.
- In view of these incidents, the government is bringing this amendment to make the law more effective and stringent.
APPOINTMENT 2. Pralhad Joshi becomes new Education Minister
- On 25 July, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was appointed as the new Education Minister.
- Joshi was given this position after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
- In 2004, he was first elected as an MP from Karnataka’s Dharwad Lok Sabha seat.
- After being an MP 3 times, Pralhad became an MP for the fourth time in 2019 and was appointed as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal Minister and Mines Minister in the Central Government.
- In 2024, in the third term of the Modi government, he became Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Minister of New and Renewable Energy.
Pralhad started his political career in 1995 as BJP, Dharwad District President.
RESIGNATION
3. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned
- On July 25, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post.
- The Cockroach Janata Party along with students from different parts of the country had been staging a dharna at Jantar Mantar for the past 36 days, demanding his resignation in the NEET paper leak case.
- Following this, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation by writing a letter.
- In the 12-year tenure after the Modi government was first formed in 2014, Dharmendra Pradhan is the first minister who had to resign due to protests.
- Pradhan started his political career in 1983 with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)
- In the year 2000, became MLA for the first time from the Pallahara constituency of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
- In 2004, was elected as MP from the Deogarh Lok Sabha constituency of Odisha. Also served as National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
- In 2015, became National General Secretary of BJP and served as organization in-charge of several states.
- On 26 May 2014, became Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas in the Central Government.
- In 2019, was appointed as Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Steel in the Central Cabinet.
- In July 2021, became Union Education Minister. Also took charge of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
- He was elected as MP from Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency of Odisha in 2024.
In 2018, Dharmendra Pradhan became Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh.

4. Anahat Singh became the first Indian to win the Junior Championship 2026
- On July 26, squash player Anahat Singh won the title of World Squash Junior Championship 2026.
- She gave India its first gold in this tournament. With this, she became the first Indian player to become Junior World Champion.
- She defeated Egypt’s second seed Rukaya Salem 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 in the singles final.
- Anahat has broken the record of India’s Joshna Chinappa, who had reached the final in 2005.
- With this victory, Anahat has also broken Egypt’s 15-year record.
- Since 2011, Egyptian players had been continuously winning the World Squash Junior Championship title.
- Anahat started playing squash at the age of 5.
- Gained recognition in 2019 by winning medals in several age-group competitions at the Asian Junior level.
- Became the youngest Indian squash player to represent India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 (Birmingham).
- Won 2 bronze medals for India at the Asian Games (Hangzhou) in 2023 (Women’s Team and Mixed Doubles).
- Became part of the team that won India a gold medal at the World Cup 2025.
- Anahat won a Bronze Medal at the Junior World Championship in 2025 last year.

5. Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won bronze
- On July 26, Rishikant Singh won a silver medal in the 60 KG category of men’s weightlifting at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
- Rishikant secured second place by lifting a total weight of 264 KG.
- Rishikant lifted 121 KG in snatch and 143 KG in clean and jerk.
- India is now at 10th position in the medal table with 1 silver and 1 bronze.
- Australia is at first position with 23 medals including 12 gold.
- On Friday, para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won India’s first medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
- The para powerlifter from Bihar won a bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight category.
- He scored 130.9 points with a best lift of 190 kilograms.
- In boxing, Jadumani Singh secured a place in the round of-16 with a win. In lawn bowls, Putul Sonowal recorded his second consecutive victory.
- Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris won gold and England’s Matthew Harding won silver.
- Jhandu Kumar has been affected by polio since childhood. During COVID-19, he sold potatoes and onions with his father on the roadside and also drove an e-rickshaw.
- In 2023, he sold his e-rickshaw to prepare for the National Championship and focused entirely on sports.
- Won bronze medal in the 80 kg category at the Beijing (China) World Para Powerlifting World Cup.
- Created a national record by lifting 206 kg weight in Khelo India Para Games 2025.
6. Sarnath included in UNESCO World Heritage
- Ancient Buddhist site Sarnath included in UNESCO World Heritage
- On July 25, the ancient Buddhist site Sarnath was officially included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- With this, the total number of India’s World Heritage sites has become 45.
- This announcement was made at the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Busan, South Korea.
- Sarnath is an ancient Buddhist site in Uttar Pradesh. It is here that Lord Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon (Dharmachakra Pravartana) after attaining enlightenment.
- This is considered one of the four major pilgrimage sites of Buddhism. Here are located the Dhamek Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa, Ashoka Pillar, ancient monasteries and remains of temples.
- Sarnath has been recognized as a global cultural and religious heritage.
- This will promote tourism, conservation and India’s cultural identity at the international level.
- Sarnath came into existence in the sixth century BCE (approximately 528 BCE).
- In 528 BCE, Lord Buddha established Buddhism.
After Sarnath’s inclusion in UNESCO, India now has 45 UNESCO Heritage sites.
