The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksandr Polishchuk following the death of an Indian sailor in a strike on a merchant vessel in the Black Sea, marking the latest fatality involving Indian nationals caught up in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The move came after the Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship MV OMORFI was attacked in the Black Sea in Russian territorial waters, resulting in the death of the Indian crew member.
The latest death brings the number of Indian nationals killed in strikes in the Black Sea this month to at least five. The fatalities have occurred in attacks attributed to both sides involved in the Russia-Ukraine war, underscoring the growing risks faced by commercial vessels navigating the conflict zone.
