Kaliaganj TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee is facing mounting pressure both within and outside the party. In a fresh setback, he has been suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon Session and will not be allowed to attend the House.

The action follows allegations of making misogynistic remarks and insulting women MPs. TMC MPs, including Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, had accused Banerjee of making objectionable comments against female parliamentarians.

The suspension comes just a day after Banerjee sparked controversy at the Trinamool Congress’s July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata. Upset over objections to the length of his speech, the Serampore MP publicly expressed his displeasure with party supremo Mamata Banerjee and walked off the stage. Since Wednesday morning, he has continued to make a series of remarks critical of his own party.
Kunal Ghosh suspended after Assembly confrontation
Meanwhile, the ongoing rift within the Trinamool Congress also spilled over into the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The House witnessed chaotic scenes following a confrontation between Kunal Ghosh and Akhruzzaman. Speaker Rathinath Basu ordered marshals to escort Kunal Ghosh, the MLA from Beleghata, out of the Assembly and suspended him for one day.
Suvendu condemns unprecedented scenes inside Assembly
Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari strongly condemned the incident, saying,
I have never seen such unruly behaviour in the Assembly. I strongly condemn it. I have served both in the Opposition and in the ruling party, but such conduct is unacceptable. Akhruzzaman was once a minister.
