  • Delhi University JNU Advisory | NEET Protest Jantar Mantar; Rahul Gandhi

Amid ongoing protests in Delhi over the NEET paper leak, Delhi University (DU) has issued an advisory to students and staff. The university has urged them to stay away from the sit-in protests at Jantar Mantar, warning that participation in such events could invite legal action.

“Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action. Such activities can…”

DU said such activities not only pose a risk to students’ safety but could also affect their academic records and future careers. Students were also advised to be cautious of misinformation and fake news circulating on social media.

Student organisations active in the movement include the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Association (AISA), All India Students’ Federation (AISF), Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), and independent student groups from various DU colleges.

JNU’s advisory: Prioritise personal safety

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also issued an advisory on X.

All stakeholders of JNU’s epistemic community are advised to act responsibly and prioritise their personal safety. In accordance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India’s directions on public demonstrations, you are requested to refrain from participating in or visiting gatherings taking place at or around Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

JNU also urged students and staff to act responsibly on social media and uphold the values of academic responsibility and responsible citizenship.

IIT Madras statement

QuoteImage

The ROOT OF TRUST of any exam is the teachers who set the question paper. We trust them for their integrity and honesty. As per reports in the media regarding the NEET paper leak, it appears that the question paper setters themselves were involved in the scam…

IIT Madras (@iitmadras), 23 July 2026

IIT Madras said the real foundation of trust in any examination is the teachers who set the question papers. Media reports on the NEET paper leak suggest that some of those involved in preparing the paper were themselves part of the alleged scam.

The institute also said it was concerning that, according to media reports, cybercriminals attempted to crash the CBSE re-evaluation portal by sending 3.8 million packets within a short period.

Rahul Gandhi criticises the advisory

Rahul Gandhi on 24 July strongly criticised DU’s advisory in the Lok Sabha, accusing the university of threatening students for exercising their democratic rights.

QuoteImage

How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note that you are the ones who will be held accountable when the time comes.

Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi), 24 July 2026

Reacting to DU’s advisory on X, Gandhi wrote: “How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note that you are the ones who will be held accountable when the time comes.”
