The body of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankhad, a resident of UP, has been found. On Monday morning, he was found unconscious at the police headquarters. Officials rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to the police’s preliminary investigation, Anurag Dhankhad committed suicide. His body has been kept at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital in Agartala for now. Police and forensic teams are investigating at the scene.
Anurag Dhankhad was a 1994-batch IPS officer and a resident of Baghpat. He had investigated the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Anurag Dhankhad was a resident of Biharipur village, about 7 kilometers away from Baghpat city. He had last visited the village about 25 years ago. He has an ancestral house in the village, but the gate is locked. Villagers said that no member of his family lives here anymore.

DGP Anurag Dhankar is survived by his wife, Kalpana, and their son, Abhishek, who lives in Canada. He also has two elder brothers. His younger brother, Raviraj, runs a toy shop in Baraut, while his other brother, Vivek, worked for a private company after retiring from the Indian Air Force. He is currently not working and stays at home.
Ramesh Kumar, a friend of DGP Anurag Dhankar, said, “We studied together until Class 12. Anurag was a good volleyball player. After completing his graduation, he moved to Delhi.”
