Rahul Gandhi Meets Viral Jantar Mantar Preamble Reader Irfan

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, met Mohammad Irfan on 27 July 2026. Irfan had recently come into the social media spotlight after reading the Preamble of the Indian Constitution during a student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Sharing videos and photos of the meeting, Gandhi wrote that he met Irfan, a young man from a Delhi locality whose thinking is not determined by his circumstances. His understanding of the Constitution, his perspective on the country, and his eagerness to learn show that India’s greatest strength is its youth.

Irfan does not know how to read or write at all. Despite this, in a viral social media interview, he expressed his views so candidly on issues relating to ordinary people, labourers, and the poor that it became a topic of discussion among the public.

After meeting Irfan, Rahul Gandhi said that Irfan and others like him are the hope of the country — people who remain conscious of both their duties and their rights.

Irfan’s video went viral during the student movement at Jantar Mantar over the NEET issue, when he recited the Preamble of the Indian Constitution in front of the camera. People were deeply moved by his passion and enthusiasm for the country.

Who is Mohammad Irfan? According to media reports, 35-year-old Mohammad Irfan, who lives in Savda JJ Colony in Delhi, is a daily-wage labourer and street vendor. He works alongside his father selling ice slabs on the roadside, earning around 500 rupees a day from this work.

Learned Through Google Voice Search In an interview with the media, Irfan revealed that whatever he has learned about history, politics, and literature came from voice search notes on Google. He doesn’t form an opinion on any piece of information straight away — instead, he verifies it against different sources before reaching a conclusion.

Mohammad Irfan said he had decided some time ago to attend the student movement. When he asked his father for permission to go, his father refused. Irfan says: “He was worried about me. But I came here without telling him. I couldn’t keep myself away. If I hadn’t come here for the hope and the cause the students had gathered for, I would never have been able to forgive myself.”
