Relatives of Delhi Police and security personnel injured during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest held a press conference on Friday.
They said that since July 20, a narrative has been pushed that the police assaulted students, but the reality of the protest is different. They alleged that police personnel were also attacked during the violence.
Three allegations by families of injured police personnel
First allegation : Daughter of injured policeman Gunjan: Anti-social elements were part of the protest
My father was deployed near the barricades at Jantar Mantar. He often told us that it was no longer just a students’ protest and that anti-social elements had also joined it.
On July 20, around 10 pm, his colleagues brought him home. His uniform was soaked in blood. A violent mob had dragged him and allegedly tried to beat him to death near the Jantar Mantar stage. He remained unconscious for nearly four hours at RML Hospital, yet social media branded him a criminal.
Second allegation : Wife of injured ASI Seema: Mischief-makers pelted stones at police
At 7 pm on July 20, I called my husband and found out he was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Mischief-makers in the crowd had injured police personnel by pelting stones and attacking them with weapons. After that, his phone was switched off.
When he returned home at 11 pm, he told me that the barricades installed to secure Parliament had been broken and the police force was attacked. The helmet he was wearing on duty was completely shattered.
Third allegation : Injured ASI’s son Lakshya Singh Bisht: Violent miscreants were also present
My father is an ASI and has received four gallantry honours. My grandfather also served in the BSF and fought in the 1971 war. My father was deployed on the front line during the Jantar Mantar protest. I learned from one of his colleagues that he had suffered a serious head injury.
When I saw his picture, his head had been shaved and he had four stitches. I was terrified. My father told me that the protest was not attended only by students, but also by violent and unruly elements.

CJP alleges lathicharge, tear gas and pellet guns used during protest
CJP alleged that police used lathicharge, tear gas and pellet guns against protesters during and after the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ march. The party claimed several students were injured and demanded action against the police personnel involved.
Rahul alleged pellet guns were used
Rahul Gandhi alleged that students were subjected to brutality during the Parliament march. He claimed that pellet guns were used against protesters, shock batons were deployed, and students were beaten with nail-studded batons.
Government said no action was taken against peaceful protesters
The Centre said police did not use force against any peaceful protesters. It maintained that action was taken only against those who tried to break barricades and breach the security cordon.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh dismissed the allegations of brutality against students as false and said no bullets were fired at the protesters. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also termed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations baseless and demanded that he withdraw them.
Cockroach Janta Party protest lasted 49 days
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi began on 6 June. Initially, the main demands were the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reforms to the examination system.
The protest later spread across the country and intensified after clashes between police and protesters during the ‘Parliament Chalo’ march on 20 July.
Following the clashes, protesters allegedly pelted stones at the police on several occasions, after which the police carried out a lathi charge.
On 25 July 2026, the government accepted the protesters’ demands. After Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, the CJP called off its 49-day protest at Jantar Mantar.
