Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Monday announced a nationwide campaign to improve government schools in villages. The campaign will ask parents to carry out social audits of basic facilities and encourage village heads to take responsibility for improving schools.

The campaign will begin on August 15, with the CJP calling on citizens, parents and village leaders to work together to address what it describes as the “neglect of rural educational infrastructure”.

Campaign to begin from Dipke’s village

In a video message, Dipke said he would launch the campaign from his village, Hingoli, in Maharashtra. He plans to approach the village head and request that the government schools there be improved.

“The coming 15th August is our 80th Independence Day. But, if anything has been neglected or ignored the most in the last 80 years, it is the government schools in our villages,” Dipke said.

He questioned why new Parliament and Prime Minister’s residence buildings could be built while government schools in villages continued to lack basic facilities.

“We have made a new Parliament, a new PM house. Why have we not been able to build new schools in our villages? Do we not consider the children of farmers and labourers the future of our country?” he asked.

Village children lack basic facilities

Dipke said many children in villages still have to walk long distances to reach their schools. He also said that basic facilities such as drinking water and toilets are often not available in these schools.

He said improving government schools should be a priority on Independence Day and called for a fresh effort to ensure that children in villages receive better educational facilities.
