After its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is now working on its next strategy.

The second day of the party’s two-day core committee meeting is underway in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Wednesday. The meeting is discussing organisational expansion, the roadmap for nationwide public movements, and the party’s strategy on issues such as unemployment, inflation, education, and the NEET examination.

The party has already made it clear that it will not contest elections for now and will instead function as a pressure group. Founder Abhijeet Dipke is expected to address a press conference at 2 pm, where he may announce the decisions taken at the meeting and outline the party’s future plans.

13 people including Deepak and Saurav Das attended the two-day core committee meeting of CJP in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Abhijeet Dipke: We will not form a political party

On the first day of the two-day meeting, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke made it clear that the organisation will not enter electoral politics for now. He said India does not need another political party at this stage, but a strong pressure group.

According to Dipke, the success of the Jantar Mantar protest came from people with different ideologies coming together over a common issue. He said the meeting is reviewing the Jantar Mantar agitation and discussing E20 petrol, the education system, organisational expansion, and the strategy for future nationwide protests.

CJP’s Jantar Mantar protest lasted 36 days

CJP staged a continuous sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar from June 20 to July 25, lasting 36 days. Thousands of students, parents, and young people participated in the protest. Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk also joined the agitation and went on a hunger strike.

On July 20, CJP organised a march to Parliament, during which police baton-charged the protesting students. On July 25, after then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, CJP announced the end of the protest.

Cockroach Janata Party began as an online campaign after CJI’s remark

During a Supreme Court hearing, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Suryakant referred to young people as “cockroaches”. The remark quickly went viral on social media. In protest, Abhijeet Dipke, an Indian student studying in the US, launched a satirical online campaign called the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

The campaign rapidly gained traction on social media, with large numbers of students joining it. It soon evolved into an organised student movement. Dipke later launched an online campaign against the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
