Vocational & Main Subjects Credit Scores for Students

CBSE has prepared to implement a credit system for school students. Under the National Credit Ranking Framework (NCRF), students from 9th to 12th will be given credits based on studies along with skill development, practicals, sports activities, and experiential learning.

Under the framework, 40 credits have been set for 1200 learning hours in one academic session. Students will receive credits for vocational subjects along with main subjects. Students taking additional subjects will also receive credits.

Opportunities for Lateral Entry in Professional Courses

These credits will be helpful to students in higher education after 12th. For instance, students will get opportunities for lateral entry in various professional courses with the help of these credits after 12th. These credits will improve merit during admission registration.

What is NCRF?

NCRF (National Credit Framework) is a credit-based structure launched by the Government of India under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It was implemented in 2023 by the Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission (UGC) and other regulatory bodies.

General education and vocational education have been linked

Through this, credits earned in school education, higher education and vocational or skill education are combined together. Through this framework, general education and vocational education are linked so that prior learning, multiple entry-exit and professional development can be encouraged to be brought into the system. For example – school students are given credits for studies, practical work and skill development.
