India’s dream run in boxing at CWG 2026 continues
It was raining medals for India in Glasgow on Saturday as Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria won twin gold medals in 15 minutes. Soman Rana won a third gold medal for the country in the men’s shot put F57 final, while Shubham Juyal bagged a silver. Later on, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, and Sachin Siwach went on to add four golds to India’s total tally, a historic first in the nation’s Commonwealth Games history.
Meanwhile, Praveen Chithravel won the silver medal for the country in the men’s triple jump final, while his compatriot Selva Prabhu Thirumaran won the bronze medal.
5 gold in 6 finals for women’s boxers, Sachin wins 1st gold among men’s boxers
India’s medal tally rises to 34 after women’s boxers won all of their five final bouts. The winners included names like Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, and Arundhati Choudhary.
Jadumani Singh had to settle for silver after losing the men’s 55kg final bout. Preeti won the country’s sixth gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Later, Jaismine claimed gold in the 57kg women’s category.

Sakshi Chaudhary clinched gold in the women’s 51kg category, followed by Priya Ghanghas’ gold in the women’s 60kg bout, earning India the highest number of gold medals in boxing in a single campaign of the Commonwealth Games. Unfortunately, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain settled for silver after losing the women’s 75kg final bout.
Sachin Siwach, in the men’s 60kg final, had almost lost the match until he knocked out his opponent and won the gold 3-2 by split decision.

In other sports, Praveen Chithravel claimed the silver medal in the men’s triple jump with a best effort of 16.58m. Meanwhile, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran secured the bronze medal with a best jump of 16.52m, helping India’s medal tally reach 27.
On Saturday, Indian athletes will compete in boxing, athletics, para-athletics, judo, track cycling, and lawn bowls. A total of 44 gold medal events will be held throughout the day. These include 19 athletics-para-athletics, 14 boxing, 6 track-para track cycling, and 5 judo finals.

Soman Rana has extended India’s gold tally to 8 as he finished on top in the men’s shot put F57 final with a season-best throw of 13.40m. Meanwhile, his compatriot in para athletics, Shubham Juyal, claimed silver, also his season best, with a 13.28m effort to complete an Indian one-two finish.

After Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria already won the gold and Jadumani Singh settled for silver in the men’s 55kg bout, the focus now shifts to Sakshi Chaudhary’s bout later.
At 9 PM, Sakshi Chaudhary 51 kg, at 9:15 PM Priya Ghanghas 60 kg, at 9:30 PM Arundhati Chaudhary 70 kg, at 10:15 PM Lovlina Borgohain 75 kg, at 10:45 PM Sachin Siwach 60 kg, at 11:15 PM, Ankush Panghal 80 kg, and at 11:45 PM Narender Barwal in 90+ kg category will play their final matches.

Unnati Sharma has reached the semi-finals in judo. Unnati defeated Lamulela Magagula in the round of 16 of the women’s 63 kg category. She then edged past New Zealand’s Qona Christie in the quarterfinal, prevailing by waza-ari after also registering a yuko to book her place in the last four.
Soman Rana: Landmine blast survivor who turned his fate
Soman Rana served in the Indian Army. While on duty in Jammu and Kashmir, he lost his right leg in a landmine blast. His father is a farmer, and Soman used to help out in the fields to support his parents. He had always aspired to join the Army and had no particular interest in sports.
Soman Rana has served as a soldier in the Indian Army.
He was selected for the Indian Army in 2001. He went to Shillong for his training as a soldier, after which he was posted to Poonch. Soman lost his right leg in a landmine blast in Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the incident, Soman fell into depression. He was unsure of how to move forward with his life, as he had lost a leg. Everyone advised him to get a prosthetic leg. He then travelled to Pune for treatment, where seeing others in similar situations rekindled his hope for life.
Instead of giving up after a severe injury and a long course of treatment, he decided to steer his life in a new direction. In 2012, the 44-year-old met para-athletes who had competed in the National Games. Inspired by the idea, he began participating in para-games himself in 2017.

It has been a historic day for India in boxing so far, as it has won 6 gold medals today in the sport for the first time ever at the Commonwealth Games. Ndevelo had a 4-1 lead after two rounds until Sachin pulled off a knockout at the last moment and stole the gold from right under his Namibia opponent’s nose. It was a split decision victory by 3-2, as Sachin was also penalised one point in the 2nd round.
Sachin Siwach is getting creative with the jabs and cuts as his opponent’s arms reach and length are much longer. The Indian boxer is devising new ways to tackle his opponent in the final bout.

Another dominant performance by the Indian boxers as Arundhati Choudhary records her 5th gold medal in boxing and overall India’s medal tally rises to 34. She won by unanimous 5-0 decision after third round.
She has already won two rounds against her English boxer, Chantelle Reid. The English opponent will go for a charge in the next round.
Unnati Sharma clinched the women’s 63kg bronze medal after defeating Skye Knoester of South Africa by Ippon in the third-place contest.
The podium finish adds another judo medal to India’s tally after two golds and a silver on Friday.

In the women’s 60kg final bout, Priya held her ground and clinched the gold medal. India had previously won 3 golds at the 2018 Gold Coast CWG games. Now India has secured 4 golds in 5 boxing finals that have been played so far.

Karanjit Singh Maan and Inunganbi Takhellambam’s Glasgow 2026 campaign came to an end after they lost in men’s 90kg and women’s 70kg repechage respectively.

Dixon claimed the second round and is not letting Jadumani Singh take control in the 3rd round. Both boxers are receiving multiple warnings for clinching and keeping head down than usual.
Jadumani is fighting hard in the first round to control the rhythm, but Dixon is aggressive right from the start with straight jabs.
