The monsoon has become active across India for the second time this season, bringing heavy rainfall to 14 states in the north.
The affected states include Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
Heavy rain triggered landslides in Uttarakhand on Saturday, disrupting two major pilgrimages. Horse and mule services on the Kedarnath route were suspended, while a group of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims was halted after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of very heavy rainfall across the state.
Authorities have also suspended the Amarnath and Vaishno Devi pilgrimages until further notice due to the adverse weather forecast for North India over the next five days.
The IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Sikkim and West Bengal on Sunday.
In contrast, Rajasthan, Gujarat and western Madhya Pradesh have received little or no rainfall. In Bhopal, residents performed a traditional ritual in an attempt to invoke rain by feeding gulab jamuns to donkeys, believing the act would appease Lord Indra, the Hindu rain deity.

Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, the water level of the Alaknanda river has risen, causing the ghats and constructions built on the riverbank to start getting submerged.

During this period of floods and landslides in Arunachal, seven people have died so far, 29 people have been injured and 1,49,257 people have been affected. A total of 26 districts, 328 circles and 576 villages have been affected by the monsoon’s impact.
Here, in Pithoragarh, the fourth batch of Kailash-Mansarovar pilgrimage, which includes 50 pilgrims, has been stopped at Dharchula base camp. Base camp in-charge Dhan Singh Bisht informed that the route to Gunji has been blocked due to a landslide at Garbadhar.

- Orange alert for rain in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Western Uttar Pradesh.
- Heavy rain will also occur in Eastern UP, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim, Bengal, Eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Maharashtra.
- Strong winds may blow in Karnataka and Telangana.
