
Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar since June 28 demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) Founder Abhijeet dipke has claimed that during the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar, some people attempted to attack social activist Sonam Wangchuk. According to him, stones were thrown at Wangchuk, but he was not injured.
Dipke said in his social media post late Friday night – Just a few days ago I had warned that people would be sent to stop the protest. I had received this information from sources inside the police. Dipke said – If anything happens to Wangchuk, the government will be responsible.
Wangchuk’s hunger strike has entered its 21st day with several demands including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the paper leak case. In support of him, actor Hrithik Roshan wrote on his Instagram story – I too realized the mental stress of students when I played the role of a teacher in one of my films.

Wangchuk says – 20% of body gone but will stay alive till July 20
Wangchuk, sitting on dharna at Jantar Mantar, said in a video released late Friday night – I am alive right now. 20% of my body is gone. After fat, muscles will go. Then brain… but that situation hasn’t come yet.
Earlier he had said – On July 20, Parliament march will happen at any cost and I will be alive. If people don’t come, I will return as a ghost.’ Cockroach Janata Party has called for a Parliament march on July 20 demanding Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

Wangchuk lost 9.5 kg weight due to hunger strike
According to doctors monitoring Wangchuk’s health, due to the continuous hunger strike, Wangchuk has lost about 9.5 kg weight so far. During 24 hours on Friday, his weight decreased by another 350 grams to 56.55 kg.
Along with Wangchuk, AISA’s Neha, Amin and Manish have also been on hunger strike for the past 21 days. Neha has been advised to be hospitalized due to severe hypoglycemia, while Amin and Manish’s health is also continuously deteriorating.
CJP’s protest, demand for Education Minister’s resignation
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been protesting at Jantar Mantar since June 20 against the NEET paper leak. They are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Wangchuk has also joined their movement. CJP was formed after Chief Justice Suryakant compared unemployed youth to cockroaches.
Appeal from both sides, Wangchuk should end hunger strike
- Congress leader Pawan Khera said- We are all concerned about Sonam Wangchuk’s health. The government in power is very insensitive and does not understand the language of democratic protest.
- SP MP Dimple Yadav said- I am a mother myself, Akhilesh ji is a father. We understand the pain of children very well. I can understand the pain of you students. We understand what children’s expectations are, what their dreams are.
- AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said- Dharmendra Pradhan should be removed and Sonam Wangchuk should be made the Education Minister of the country. But PM Modi will not do this, because he fears that Sonam Wangchuk might bring about some revolution in education.
- JDU leader Bhagwan Singh said – JDU leader and Bihar government minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha said that whether the matter is resolved or not, when he is on a hunger strike, the government should listen to him. Some government delegation should go and meet him.
- LJP spokesperson Vineet Singh said – Whatever his demands are, the government must be considering them. When the time comes, it will be discussed, but I would like to request Sonam Wangchuk to give up his hunger strike.
Demand to make Ladakh a state, Wangchuk spent 170 days in jail
Earlier, Wangchuk spent 170 days in Jodhpur jail demanding full statehood for Ladakh. He was accused that during the hunger strike on September 24, 2025, violence occurred in Leh, in which 4 people died and 90 people were injured.
The government accused Wangchuk of inciting violence. Two days later, on September 26, he was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and sent to Jodhpur jail.
