Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar entered its 20th day on Friday. Speaking at the London Indian Film Festival, actor Aamir Khan expressed concern over Wangchuk’s health and urged him to end his fast.
Responding to a question from the audience, Aamir said, “I am concerned about Sonam Wangchuk’s health. I hope he ends his fast soon. The film 3 Idiots was not based on Sonam Wangchuk. I didn’t even know him when the film was being made.”
Meanwhile, Wangchuk said he wants to remain alive until 20 July, when the Cockroach Janata Party plans to hold a March to Parliament.
He urged supporters to gather in large numbers, saying he would present his views at what he described as the “temple of democracy”.

Doctors have warned that Sonam Wangchuk faces an increased risk of organ failure as his hunger strike continues. On Thursday, the Delhi High Court directed the Central and Delhi governments to ensure he undergoes daily medical examinations.
Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the past 20 days, protesting against the NEET paper leak and alleged examination irregularities. According to his supporters, he has lost 8.9 kg since beginning the fast.

Doctors said Wangchuk’s condition is serious
Doctors said Wangchuk’s condition had become critical due to prolonged starvation and there was a risk of damage to his body.
On Thursday, the Delhi High Court had directed the Centre and the Delhi government to conduct his daily medical check-up and provide him immediate treatment if required.
Protesters demand Education Minister’s resignation
The CJP, which has been protesting at Jantar Mantar since June 20 over the alleged NEET paper leak, has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Wangchuck has joined the movement in support of its demands.
The party said it was formed after Chief Justice Surya Kant reportedly compared unemployed youth to “cockroaches,” a remark that triggered widespread criticism.

Pawan Khera said everyone is concerned about Sonam Wangchuk’s health. He accused the government of being insensitive and said it does not understand the language of democratic protest.
Dimple Yadav (Samajwadi Party)
Dimple Yadav said that as a mother, and with Akhilesh Yadav being a father, they understand the pain of children. She said she could understand the concerns, hopes and dreams of the students.
Arvind Kejriwal (AAP)
Arvind Kejriwal said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should be replaced with Sonam Wangchuk. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not do so because he fears Wangchuk could bring about a revolution in the education system.
Janata Dal (United)
JD(U) leader and Bihar minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha said that regardless of whether the issue is resolved immediately, the government should listen to Wangchuk while he is on hunger strike. He said a government delegation should meet him and hear his concerns.
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)
LJP (Ram Vilas) spokesperson Dr Vineet Singh said he believes the government is considering Wangchuk’s demands and will discuss them at the appropriate time. He also appealed to Wangchuk to end his hunger strike.
Wangchuk spent 170 days in jail
Wangchuk previously spent 170 days in Jodhpur jail for his hunger strike demanding full statehood for Ladakh. He was accused of inciting violence in Leh on September 24, 2025, during which four people were killed and 90 injured.
The government accused Wangchuk of inciting violence. Two days later, on September 26, he was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and sent to Jodhpur jail.
