Continuous heavy rainfall across several Indian states is now proving deadly. In Jharkhand, 14 people were killed and eight injured after lightning strikes on Tuesday. Giridih reported the highest toll with nine deaths, followed by Dumka (3) and Latehar (2).
In Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, three people lost their lives. Two children drowned in a water-filled pit, while a 25-year-old man was killed by lightning.
Meanwhile, in Kerala, continuous rain since August 1 has claimed 25 lives, while four people remain missing. Persistent rain and flooding have forced thousands to leave their homes.
According to the Kerala government, more than 18,000 people are staying in relief camps. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Alappuzha are the worst-affected districts.
In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, heavy rain and landslides have led to the closure of over 300 roads, including 160 in Himachal and more than 100 in Uttarakhand. Schools up to Class 12 in Dehradun and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand have been closed today.

In Mathura, an underpass was flooded after heavy rain on Tuesday. Two-wheeler riders were seen wading through waist-deep water.
In Panipat, Haryana, roads were so heavily waterlogged that children failed to notice an open drain. All three fell into it but were rescued by passersby.
In Uttarkashi, landslides occurred near Syanachatti and Silai Band on the Yamunotri Highway. Debris and boulders rolling down the hillside disrupted traffic.
In Sasaram, Bihar, three youths got trapped in the strong river current while taking selfies. Villagers rescued them using a rope made from tied-together clothes.
