1.Lok Sabha passes anti-paper leak bill

  • On 29 July, the ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill 2026’ related to paper leaks was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha.
  • Under this, laws related to paper leaks have been made stricter. Now punishment in crimes related to paper leaks will be increased.
  • According to the new bill, provision has been made for a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹10 crore
  • This bill is an amendment to the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2026.
  • It was introduced by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
  • According to the new amendment, it will be mandatory to complete the investigation of paper leak cases within a maximum of 2 months.
  • According to the new amendment, cases will be heard in Fast Track Courts, so that a decision can be made within approximately 3 months of filing the chargesheet.
  • The objective of this law is to restore transparency, accountability and students’ trust in examinations.
  • Recently, questions were raised about the credibility of the examination system after alleged paper leak cases related to NEET-UG 2026.
  • In view of these incidents, the government has brought this amendment to make the law more effective and stringent.

2. Kiran Thadimarri appointed as new CFO of IndiGo

  • On 28 July, IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation appointed Kiran Thadimarri as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Kiran is currently IndiGo’s Deputy Financial Advisor.
  • Kiran has previously worked at e-commerce company Udaan and General Electric.
  • Kiran is a Chartered Accountant and has over 24 years of experience in the field of finance.
  • Kiran will replace Gaurav Negi. Negi was appointed to this position in 2022. He will now be an advisor.

IndiGo

  • IndiGo, meaning InterGlobe Aviation, is India’s largest and busiest airline. It was established in 2006.
  • IndiGo is a low-cost carrier (LCC), meaning it provides air travel facilities at low fares.
  • IndiGo’s headquarters is in Gurugram, Haryana. Its founders are Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal.
  • IndiGo operates flights to more than 90 domestic and more than 40 international destinations.
  • IndiGo’s CEO is William Walsh.

3. Gulveer Singh, Harjinder Kaur won Silver

  • On 28 July, Indian players won 2 silver medals on the 5th day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 ongoing in Glasgow.
  • Gulveer Singh secured second place in the men’s 10 thousand meter race. He is the first Indian to win a medal in this event.
  • Along with this, women’s weightlifter Harjinder Kaur won silver by lifting a total weight of 227 kg.
  • India has now won a total of 12 medals including 2 gold. India was at 8th position in the tally a day earlier.
  • Australia remains on top with 35 gold, winning a total of 80 medals.

  • 27-year-old Gulveer Singh is a resident of Sirsa village in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh and is a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army.

4. India won two bronze medals at ISSF World Cup

  • On July 29, the pair of Sonam Maskar and Himanshu Dhillon won the bronze medal in the 10 meter air rifle mixed team event at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup.
  • Both scored 220.6-220.6 in the medal round and achieved 441.2 points.
  • With this, India’s medal count in the tournament reached four.
  • Earlier, Esha Singh won gold, Sanyam Vij won silver and Manu Bhaker won bronze medal.
  • This championship is being held in Hangzhou, China.
  • The pair of Jifei Wang and Lihao Sheng won the gold medal with 505 points.
  • Meanwhile, China’s second team secured the silver with 504.6 points.

Sonam Maskar

  • Sonam started 10 meter air rifle shooting as a hobby in 2018 while studying at Tolani College of Commerce in Mumbai.
  • Sonam represented India at the ISSF Junior World Championship held in Changwon, South Korea in 2023.
  • Sonam won a silver medal in 10 meter air rifle at the ISSF World Cup held in Cairo, Egypt in 2024.

Himanshu Dhillon

  • Himanshu started his career at the international junior level in 2025.
  • In 2025, Himanshu represented India in the 10 meter air rifle mixed team at the ISSF Junior World Cup (Suhl, Germany).
  • In February 2026, Himanshu was part of the Indian team at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship held in New Delhi.

5. Indian Cricket Team’s Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate Resigns

  • On July 28, Indian cricket team’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate resigned.
  • Ryan had informed the BCCI of his decision during the England tour itself.
  • However, ten Doeschate will join the coaching staff of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
  • In the England series, the Indian team lost both the T20 and ODI series.
  • Before this, Ireland had defeated the team 2-0 for the first time.
  • Ten Doeschate is a former captain of the Netherlands and joined after the T20 World Cup in 2024.
  • Ryan was handling responsibilities in both batting and fielding departments in the team.

6. Jay Clayton becomes America’s new National Intelligence Director

  • On July 28, the US Senate confirmed Jay Clayton as Director of National Intelligence (DNI).
  • The Senate voted 47 out of 51 in favor of Clayton.
  • Clayton is currently the Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
  • Previously, Clayton has also served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
  • Clayton was Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2017 to 2020.
  • Clayton will replace Bill Poulte, who has been serving as Acting Director until now.
  • Jay will become Director after Tulsi Gabbard’s departure in June 2026.

7. Actor Rishabh Shetty to receive Prestigious Leadership in Cinema Award

  • On July 28, official information came about the demise of actor-director Sunil Anand, son of late Bollywood actor Dev Anand.
