The farmers’ protest in Bhopal continued for the third day over moong procurement, the fertilizer e-token system and other demands. After talks with farmers, Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana announced that the state would procure up to 60% of the moong crop, up from 25%. Slot booking has been extended till August 10 and procurement till August 20. The fertilizer e-token system has also been suspended until a committee reviews it and necessary changes are made.

Shivraj says, ‘State must fund procurement beyond 25%’

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in a two-page letter to CM Mohan Yadav, clarified that the Centre approved 4.54 lakh metric tonnes of moong procurement under PM-AASHA, rather than setting a target. He said the state should bear the cost of procurement beyond 25%. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also backed the farmers’ protest.

Farmers clash with police, Threaten CM House entry

A scuffle broke out between farmers and police in MP Nagar, with some farmers’ clothes torn. Protesters later surrounded Shivraj Chouhan’s residence before marching towards the CM House. Heavy police deployment and barricading with buses and dumpers were put in place along the route. Farmers warned they would break into the CM House if their demands were not met, while BJP workers said they were demanding their rights, not charity.

CM Mohan Yadav said the government would resolve the issue through dialogue, while Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar accused it of ignoring the farmers’ legitimate demands.

MP must complete 25% moong quota first: Shivraj SIngh Chouhan

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, urging him to start summer moong procurement at the earliest. The letter states that under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) scheme, Madhya Pradesh has been permitted to procure 454,580 metric tonnes of moong.

Chouhan said the Centre has approved the procurement of 523,243 metric tonnes of moong across the country for 2025-26. Madhya Pradesh has received the highest approval, at 4.54 lakh metric tonnes.

He said that under PM-AASHA guidelines, moong procurement in the state is capped at 25% of its production. The Centre does not set procurement targets for states but grants approval based on production under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) guidelines.

Chouhan said Madhya Pradesh has consistently received the Centre’s approval for moong procurement from 2021-22 to 2025-26. In previous years, the state government procured additional quantities and completed moong procurement from farmers on time.

Mohan Yadav govt is ‘consumed by arrogance’: Umang Singhar

Madhya Pradesh LoP Umang Singhar said that thousands of farmers are peacefully raising their voices over their legitimate demands, but the Mohan Yadav government, which he accused of being “consumed by arrogance,” is unwilling to listen to them.

Addressing Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Singhar said that forming committees and delaying the matter would not resolve the farmers’ problems. He said that undertaking a march is not a crime in a democracy, but a constitutional right of every citizen.

Singhar said that a government should be run through dialogue and sensitivity, not arrogance. He added that the Madhya Pradesh Congress stands firmly with the farmers and fully supports all their legitimate demands.

The Congress has demanded a guarantee of 100% procurement of moong in the state, immediate improvement in the poor fertilizer distribution system, and concrete solutions to all pending issues concerning farmers.
