India has strongly objected to The New York Times referring to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as “Pakistani Kashmir.”
The Indian Embassy in the US said on social media platform X that there is no such thing as “Pakistani Kashmir”—only Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The embassy reiterated that the entire Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India and will always remain so.
The embassy also accused Pakistan of illegally occupying parts of these territories and committing violence against the people living there. India said its position on the issue has always been clear and remains unchanged.
The embassy’s response came after a New York Times report referred to the region as “Pakistani Kashmir” while covering recent unrest and local elections in PoK.
The report mentioned clashes in Mirpur between security forces and the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), in which two people were killed, and discussed the impact on the electoral process. It also noted that some claims made by protesters could not be independently verified.
