The first phase of India’s Census 2027 has been completed in 29 states and Union Territories. Meanwhile, online self-enumeration for the House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) began in Tamil Nadu and Tripura on Friday.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay also registered his details on the census portal at the Secretariat. The portal will remain open in both states until 31 July.
From 1 August to 30 August, census enumerators will carry out door-to-door house-listing and housing census.
The Ministry said families who complete self-enumeration online should keep their self-enumeration ID. They must share this ID with census officials when they visit their homes to complete the process.
The 2027 Census is being conducted in digital mode for the first time. Data is being collected through a dedicated mobile app, although the traditional door-to-door survey will also continue.
House-listing to continue in Kerala and Nagaland until 30 July
The field survey for house-listing and the housing census is still under way in Kerala and Nagaland, and will continue until 30 July.
Families who do not choose the online self-enumeration option will be covered through door-to-door visits by census officials.
During the house-listing and housing census, officials are collecting information about households, housing facilities and property details through a questionnaire containing 33 questions.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said that all information collected under the Census Act, 1948 will remain strictly confidential. The data will be used only for statistical analysis and development planning.
