TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday alleged that under the BJP government, the West Bengal Police themselves have become lawbreakers. He made this statement a day after his office in Amtala, South 24 Parganas, was demolished.
On Saturday, the district administration had demolished the front part of the building with a bulldozer. It was alleged that it was built without approval. After the demolition of the building, Abhishek shared a night video on social media X.
Abhishek alleged that Bengal Police, in collusion with BJP goons, were carrying away boxes full of laptops, printers, papers, tables, chairs, and other furniture.
This was not vandalism but theft in uniform, which was carried out without any respect for the law and despite the matter being sub judice in the High Court.
July 18 – 3 pictures of the action at the office

Abhishek’s office in Amtala was closed. The police opened the lock and took action.

The administration demolished the part of the building that was built without approval.

After the demolition, a part of the AC was left hanging.
Abhishek says ‘This is BJP’s bulldozer model’
- Amtala’s party office was legally built on purchased land with all necessary approvals.
- TMC will approach the Calcutta High Court in this matter, and if necessary, the Supreme Court.
- The party has sent videos to the CJI’s OSD, accusing BJP workers of vandalism.
- Legal action will be taken against those seen in the videos; no one will be spared.
- If BJP leaders think they can save them, they are mistaken. The arm of the law is very long.
- Before the elections, there was the Annapurna Bhandar scheme; now there is the bulldozer model. This is BJP’s real model.
Administration says action taken after no response to two notices
According to the administration, complaints were received alleging illegal construction at the office. Officials said notices were issued to those concerned on 15 July, asking them to appear for a hearing.
The administration said no response was received to either of the two notices. As a result, it decided to proceed with enforcement action against the property.

Abhishek Banerjee’s poster is also displayed on the side of the office building. This poster was put up during the recent assembly elections.
Amtala office Abhishek’s power center, closed since the defeat
- Located in Amtala, the office was considered the centre of Abhishek Banerjee’s political operations in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency. It served as the base for organisational work, public outreach and election planning.
- TMC stronghold in South 24 Parganas:Amtala is part of South 24 Parganas, a district long regarded as a Trinamool Congress (TMC) stronghold. As a result, the office held significance beyond that of a routine constituency office.
- Linked to Abhishek’s political role:After being elected as the MP from Diamond Harbour in 2014 and becoming the TMC’s National General Secretary in 2021, the office emerged as a key centre for his organisational decisions and regional political activities.
- At the centre of a fresh political row:The office was reportedly closed following the TMC’s defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The administration says the demolition was carried out after repeated notices over alleged illegal construction went unanswered. The TMC, however, has described the action as politically motivated.
- Tensions between BJP and TMC escalate:On 3 July, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that his associates were being targeted by the STF and CID. The demolition of the Amtala office has further intensified the political confrontation between the BJP-led administration and the TMC.
