Stray cattle attacks turned fatal for two men in Rewari within a short span, raising fresh concerns over the growing menace of cattle on city roads.

A retired Captain died after two stray cattle suddenly ran towards his scooter and collided with him while he was returning home after buying vegetables from a market. The incident was captured on CCTV.

Cattle jumped onto scooter, Captain fell on road

According to the CCTV footage, the retired Captain had just entered the main road when two cattle approached from the front and suddenly jumped onto his scooter. He lost balance and fell onto the road, suffering serious injuries.

People nearby took him to a hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased’s granddaughter Preeti had secured 288th rank in the UPSC examination a few months ago.

Councillor’s brother also dies in cattle attack

In another incident today (11 Aug), the brother of Rewari Ward-19 councillor also died after being attacked by stray cattle.

He had left home for his morning walk when cattle allegedly attacked him with their horns. He sustained serious injuries and died in the incident.

The two deaths have once again highlighted concerns over stray cattle roaming freely on roads and posing a serious risk to commuters and pedestrians.

Accident while returning home after buying vegetables

The 80-year-old Jagram Yadav who lost his life in the accident had retired from the Army as a Captain. His wife Narayani Devi said that she lives with her husband and grandson in Sector-4.

On the evening of August 5, her husband Captain Jagram Yadav had gone on a scooter to buy vegetables. While returning after buying vegetables, a cow hit the scooter in Dhakka Basti.

Son had already died

Narayani Devi said, “We have two sons. One son had died a few years ago. Now that son’s 35-year-old son (grandson) is living with his grandparents and wife.”

Jagram was recruited through sports quota

Jagram Yadav was a weightlifting player. He was recruited in the Army through sports quota. He retired from Secunderabad with the rank of Captain. The second son is also retired from the Army and lives separately with his family in Rewari.

This morning at Mata Chowk in Ward 17, a cow attacked the councilor's brother with its horns.

75-year-old shopkeeper dies after cow attack in Rewari

A 75-year-old shopkeeper died after being attacked by a cow while he was out for a morning walk near Mata Chowk in Rewari on Tuesday.

People rescued him after attack

The deceased, Pratap Singh Yadav, a resident of Mata Chowk, was attacked by the cow while walking near the area. People nearby intervened and rescued him before taking him to the Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

Family facing multiple challenges

Pratap Singh is survived by two sons and three daughters. His daughters are married, while both sons are unmarried. According to the family, one of his sons has a mental health condition, while his son’s wife is undergoing treatment for diabetes at AIIMS. Municipal Councillor Nihal Singh is Pratap Singh’s cousin.

₹37 lakh spent to catch 2,000 cattle

The Rewari Municipal Council had floated a tender in April-May this year to catch 2,000 stray cattle, including cows, bulls and calves. The contractor reportedly completed the assigned work.

However, the situation on the ground appears largely unchanged. Despite spending around ₹37 lakh on the drive, herds of cattle continue to be seen on roads, in markets, lanes and at major crossings across the city.

Council promises fresh strategy after two deaths

Municipal Council Executive Officer Arun Nandal said, “The administration was aware of the two recent fatal incidents involving stray cattle.”

He said, “The council would discuss the matter with officials, the chairperson and councillors and work towards preparing a concrete strategy to prevent such incidents in the future.”
