NCPI MPs Meet Suvendu Adhikari in Delhi Amid Recognition Row and Political Speculation

Members of Parliament from the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, NCPI, met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in New Delhi on Tuesday amid continuing uncertainty over their political future and pending recognition by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The meeting, held at Banga Bhavan, lasted for more than one and a half hours. According to party leaders, discussions focused on the recognition of NCPI MPs, political developments in West Bengal, and the state’s development agenda.

Recognition issue remains politically unresolved

The meeting comes against the backdrop of growing speculation surrounding the future of three Murshidabad MPs, Abu Taher, Khalilur Rahman, and Yusuf Pathan, who were among the 20 former Trinamool Congress MPs that joined the newly formed NCPI. Their status remains uncertain as the Lok Sabha Speaker is yet to formally recognise them as a separate parliamentary group.

Murshidabad MPs fuel fresh political speculation

After the meeting, Mathurapur MP Bapi Haldar dismissed reports of differences within the party. He said the three MPs had shared their concerns directly with the Chief Minister and reaffirmed that they would continue to remain with the NCPI.

Development agenda dominates high level discussions

Haldar also said the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to West Bengal’s development and assured party MPs that the promises made earlier would be fulfilled. NCPI MP Rachana Banerjee also described the meeting as positive and said development issues were discussed in detail.

Political speculation had intensified after some NCPI MPs skipped two recent NDA meetings and were seen interacting with Kalighat Trinamool leaders in Parliament. Abu Taher had earlier said the MPs wanted separate recognition for the NCPI in Parliament and would oppose any legislation they believed went against the interests of Muslims.
