In two separate operations, Kolkata Police and Rajasthan Police detained a Thai national for allegedly overstaying her visa and arrested three suspected cyber fraudsters at Sealdah railway station.
Thai national detained during Kolkata police raid
In the first incident, a Thai woman was intercepted during a raid at Sabai Namaste Spa on Sarat Bose Road in south Kolkata on Saturday evening. Acting on specific intelligence, police conducted the raid at around 4:55 pm and questioned the woman after she failed to produce valid documents proving her legal stay in India.
Expired visa reveals prolonged illegal stay
During interrogation, she produced a Thai passport that had expired on February 23, 2025. Police also found that her Indian tourist visa, issued in February 2020, had expired on February 27, 2021. Investigators alleged that she had been living in India illegally after the expiry of her visa.
Woman to face FRRO immigration proceedings
The woman was taken to the police station for further examination, assisted by women police personnel. Officials said she will be produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Kolkata, for further legal action. Until then, she has been kept in safe custody at Tollygunge Women’s Police Station under CCTV surveillance.
Rajasthan Police arrest cyber fraud suspects
In another incident, three suspected cyber fraudsters were arrested at Sealdah railway station by Rajasthan Police. According to preliminary information, the accused were allegedly being taken to Myanmar, where they were reportedly expected to work for an organised cyber fraud network.
Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of their involvement and identify other members of the racket.
