Surat-based RTI activist Amit Tiwari has called for an investigation into the ₹1 crore legal defence fund announced by Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal for Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protesters.

Tiwari has also sought an inquiry into the assets of Bhagwanrao Deepke, the father of CJP founder Abhijit Deepke.

He questioned how a retired Maharashtra government employee was able to finance his son’s education abroad.

In this regard, Tiwari has written to the Election Commission and tax authorities, requesting an investigation into the matter.

Tiwari says CJP is not a registered organisation

Tiwari claimed that CJP is not a registered organisation but is functioning like a political party.

He said that since a legal defence fund of ₹1 crore has been announced for the group, the Election Commission should verify whether CJP is officially registered.

He further argued that if the organisation is not registered, operating as a political party and collecting funds in its name could require investigation.

Tiwari has also approached the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), asking whether GST would apply to the contribution announced by Kapil Sibal.
