Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that students protesting in Delhi were subjected to police brutality, claiming that pellet guns were fired and nail-studded batons were used against them.
Rahul Gandhi said he was not allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha and alleged that he was asked to apologise before being given permission to address the House.
He said that as the Leader of the Opposition, it was his duty to raise issues concerning the country.
Rahul claimed that several students lost their eyesight due to pellet gun injuries and said he had seen medical certificates related to the injuries.
He also alleged that the Education Ministry was being controlled by the RSS and criticised the government over exam-related issues, including paper leaks.
Earlier, the BJP held a press conference over Rahul Gandhi’s statement alleging firing during the students’ Parliament march. BJP MP Sambit Patra rejected the claim, saying no firing took place during the protest.
Patra accused Rahul Gandhi of making false statements in Parliament and said that since no firing occurred, the question of an order being issued by Home Minister Amit Shah did not arise. He also rejected Rahul’s allegation that Amit Shah was responsible for the alleged action against students.

Rahul Gandhi said accountability would be ensured and called it the opposition’s “guarantee” to the students.
He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove Amit Shah and order an investigation by an independent high-powered committee of the Supreme Court into the matter.
