PM Modi took to social media thanking the country’s youth in a late-night video message. He said, “Thank you friends. I had the opportunity to meet you late last night. I appreciate the way you responded to my video and your positive suggestions. Thanks to everyone.”

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest in Delhi in solidarity with the ongoing demonstrations over the NEET UG 2026 paper leak. NSUI members expressed support for the students’ demands and called for accountability over the examination controversy.

Delhi Police has dismissed social media claims that food delivery app services have been banned across the New Delhi area, calling the reports “completely false, baseless and misleading.”

In a post on X, the police clarified that no ban has been imposed on food delivery services in New Delhi. It urged citizens not to believe or share unverified information and advised them to rely only on official sources for accurate updates.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government’s handling of paper leaks. In a post on X, Dipke alleged that the government’s solution was to ask ministers to become more active on Instagram, adding, “This is why a PM should be educated.”

Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, has appealed to people not to rush to criticise the activist, saying he fasted for 26 days for a cause larger than himself.

In a post on X, she said Wangchuk is currently in the ICU after losing 11 kg, including muscle mass, because he chose “sacrifice over comfort”.

She urged people to show him compassion before burdening him with political expectations and calculations, adding that “not everyone is qualified to judge a life of selfless service” and asking people to “have a heart.”

After several Delhi University colleges, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has advised students and faculty to stay away from the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) also issued an advisory urging students to avoid activities that could jeopardise their academic future.

The advisories come amid the ongoing protests over the NEET UG 2026 paper leak, which have prompted heightened security and traffic restrictions in parts of Central Delhi.

The Madhya Pradesh government will set up four fast track courts to ensure the speedy trial of examination malpractice and paper leak cases.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced in Panna on Friday that the courts will be established in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur.

He said the move is aimed at ensuring swift justice, expediting trials and securing strict punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.

Mumbai Police said protests were held on Friday in areas under the Tilak Nagar, Santacruz and Shivaji Park police stations. A case has been registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station against five people and other unidentified protesters for allegedly violating preventive and prohibitory orders, along with related offences.

Protesters dressed as Batman and gorillas arrived at Jantar Mantar to join the ongoing demonstration. Their costumes drew attention as they participated in the protest alongside other demonstrators. Two videos from the site showed the costumed protesters interacting with the crowd and raising slogans.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after arriving at Jantar Mantar to support the ongoing protest.

He said that if the demands of students were not addressed, the country would come to a standstill. “Dharmendra Pradhan should resign. If the demands of our children are not heard, the entire country will stop,” Banerjee said.

The ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar, held amid intense heat, high humidity and large crowds, have increased the risk of infectious diseases. Many protesters have complained of headaches, sore throats and other health problems.

Volunteer doctors at the protest site said a large number of people are suffering from viral infections, dehydration and heat-related illnesses after spending long hours outdoors. They added that overcrowding has further heightened the risk of infection.

Doctors also said many protesters are not eating adequately, leading to nausea, vomiting and worsening health. Those affected are being provided with food, oral rehydration solution (ORS) and basic medical care at the protest site.

Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora welcomed activist Sonam Wangchuk’s decision to end his hunger strike, saying the party appreciated the move. Speaking on behalf of Shiv Sena and party leader, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deora said the country’s youth have faith in the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He also urged young people to engage with the government constructively, adding that criticism and complaints should be positive and constructive.

Delhi Police has released CCTV footage purportedly showing incidents of stone pelting and vandalism at several locations across the national capital during the protest held on 20 July. The police said the footage forms part of its investigation into the violence that erupted during the demonstration.

Trinamool Congress president and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to join the CJP-led protest against the NEET paper leak and related issues at Jantar Mantar on Monday, PTI reported, citing sources.

Delhi Police Special Commissioner Ajay Chaudhary on Friday said the situation at Jantar Mantar remains peaceful, with the number of protesters declining to around 7,000–8,000 from previous days.

He said discussions were yielding “positive results” and many protesters, especially those who had come from outside Delhi, were returning home after police appeals. According to Chaudhary, people at the protest site were singing patriotic songs, dancing and interacting peacefully, with no alarming situation reported.

He added that no unpleasant incident had taken place since Thursday and urged people not to believe rumours. Chaudhary said the younger generation is capable of distinguishing between rumours and facts and is not getting influenced by misinformation. He reiterated that Delhi Police’s top priority is to ensure peace and maintain law and order.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray praised the Tiranga Rally held in Mumbai in support of the ongoing CJP-led protests, calling it a “very successful” event.

He said the rally reflected the participation of India’s youth, adding, “You see the youth of India coming here and gathering for Abhijeet Dipke, Sonam Wangchuk, and other young Indians who are fighting for justice.”

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s self-recorded video message for protesting students, Thackeray questioned its effectiveness, saying, “The internet is shut down at Jantar Mantar. How are they supposed to watch the video?”

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday announced that it would launch a dedicated website to gather photographs and videos from protesters to identify police personnel allegedly involved in the July 20 crackdown during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, saying it would seek FIRs against the officers and move court.

Congress leader Ajay Rai on Friday questioned activist Sonam Wangchuk’s decision to end his hunger strike, alleging that the demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation had been dropped from Wangchuk’s three-point charter.

“Throughout the long hunger strike that Sonam Wangchuk observed, he consistently demanded Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. So, why was that specific demand dropped from his list of three demands? This proves that a significant deal has been struck between Sonam Wangchuk and the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Rai said

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke claimed a much larger crowd is expected at Jantar Mantar over the weekend and alleged that the government is planning to detain party leaders overnight. He warned that any such action would only strengthen the movement, adding that the protests would spread further across the country if any CJP leader is detained. An Uttarakhand Police constable arrived at Jantar Mantar today and handed his resignation letter to CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, expressing solidarity with students protesting over the NEET paper leak. The constable said he was resigning in support of the students’ movement and their demand for justice.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on 27 July a batch of petitions alleging excessive police action against students who took part in protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations across the country over the examination paper leak issue.

The Delhi High Court on Friday declined to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking an NIA investigation into the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) 20 July Parliament march over the NEET paper leak and related issues.

The court observed that transferring a case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is the Centre’s prerogative and not a decision the court can make.

CJP Spokesperson Saurav Das said the meeting with the government was held in a cordial atmosphere. He said the party presented its three key demands, with the foremost being the resignation or removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Cabinet.

CJP’s key demands in its letter to the government

After a nearly two-hour meeting with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Union Minister JP Nadda said the party presented three main demands and five suggestions for examination reforms.

He said the government will meet CJP again tomorrow afternoon to share the outcome of its internal discussions on the demands and proposals.

After meeting the government, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said that the Centre has sought time until tomorrow afternoon to respond to the demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

The second round of talks between the CJP and the government in Delhi has concluded. The meeting began at 12:40 pm and lasted until 2:20 pm.

Sudhir Sangwan of the CJP core committee told Bhaskar that the government has changed the venue of the meeting with the government. The new location has been asked not to be disclosed yet.

Sources indicate that the government has stated that the previously scheduled Constitution Club is not a suitable location from a security perspective, and therefore, the alternative venue was selected. The Constitution Club is located 1 km from Jantar Mantar.

A meeting between leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh is currently underway in the national capital.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Dr Gitanjali Angmo, says Wangchuk has ensured the security of the students with written confirmation that no legal action will be taken against them. She added that student leaders will decide the course of the protest after meeting with the government.

The New Delhi metro station has been closed till further instructions. No interchange facility will be available at the station.

The Delhi Police on Thursday cancelled the leave of police officers of all ranks. According to media reports, the decision was taken in view of the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar.

A 21-year-old woman who was admitted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi, in critical condition following a protest-related incident is showing clinical improvement, the hospital said.

The patient was successfully extubated nearly 48 hours ago and is now breathing on her own. She is conscious, responding appropriately to commands, and her condition is currently stable.

However, RML Hospital said she continues to require comprehensive critical care under the close supervision of a multidisciplinary medical team.

The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the government’s decision to suspend internet services in parts of central Delhi, including areas around Jantar Mantar where students have been protesting.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said he was returning to Jantar Mantar after undergoing treatment involving IV fluids, injections and blood tests during the night.

Dipke said he was still feeling physically weak due to fever but insisted that the protest would continue.

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the protest at Jantar Mantar would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.

Ranka said the Prime Minister’s late-night video message showed that “pressure is high” and added that the strictest action on the paper leak issue would be Pradhan’s removal. He said the party would consider the government’s response serious only after that.

Rahul Gandhi: “Our students demand Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. We are not affected by the Prime Minister’s video. We have three demands: first, the resignation of the Education Minister; second, punishment for those who lathi-charged students on July 20th; and third, an apology to the students.”

The Congress on Friday said the “desperate and hassled-looking” Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally broke his silence on paper leaks with a video message, and claimed that his lack of commitment to accountability is evident from his failure to even mention the student protests or the brutality unleashed on them.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk announced on X that he has ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving assurances from the government and Members of Parliament across political parties that the issue of accountability in the country’s examination system would be discussed in Parliament.

The central government carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle late Thursday night, issuing transfer and promotion orders for 17 senior officials.

The biggest reshuffle took place in the Ministry of Education. Here, Naresh Pal Gangwar, a 1994 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed Secretary of the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education.

He will replace the current Secretary, Vineet Joshi, who has been made Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

Apart from this, 1995 batch IAS officer T.K. Anil Kumar has been promoted and appointed as Secretary of the School Education and Literacy Department.
