- Patna IPS Sanket Kumar Video Controversy | Police Lathi charge Protesters

In Patna on 22 July, 2026, students were protesting over NEET-related issues. During the protest, tension escalated between the police and the protesters.
At that time, a video of Patna West SP, IPS officer Sanket Kumar, surfaced, in which he was heard telling police personnel that if they retreated, he wouldn’t leave them fit to do their job. After this, the police resorted to a lathicharge to control the crowd.
The video went viral quickly on social media, sparking discussions about his working style and remarks. Sanket Kumar was a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) before becoming an IPS officer.
Situation escalated at Dak Bungalow Chowk
During this day-long protest, the streets of Patna resembled a battlefield. The procession of students started from Gandhi Maidan and was heading towards Lok Bhawan.
When the protesting students reached Patna’s main Dak Bungalow Chowk, the situation became extremely volatile. Police had set up heavy barricading to stop the students, but the agitated students broke through the police cordon and moved forward.
During this time, clashes broke out between the police and students as they tried to control the situation. In no time, the protest turned violent, and stone-pelting began from the crowd’s side.

West SP Sanket himself reached the frontline
Seeing the situation deteriorating at Dak Bungalow Chowk, Patna West SP (IPS) Sanket Kumar himself came to the frontline. When some police personnel started retreating amid the violent crowd and stone-pelting, SP Sanket Kumar warned his colleagues, in a stern and cautionary tone, not to retreat.
After this, the police force sprang into action, and the personnel moved forward again to take charge and disperse the agitated students.
