A law student was fatally stabbed in Bengaluru after rejecting a marriage proposal, police said. The victim, identified as Amrita, a resident of Kodihalli, was allegedly attacked with a knife by Surya G at around 4.30 pm on 13 July. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Tuesday evening.
According to the police, Amrita had turned down a marriage proposal from Surya’s brother, Dhanush G. The marriage had initially been arranged, but she withdrew after discovering that Dhanush had previously been married and had a daughter.
Following the incident, the JB Nagar Police registered a case against both Dhanush and Surya. Both men have been arrested and are being questioned as part of the investigation.

Amrita, Dhanush and Surya’s families also knew each other.
A relationship that started with friendship
Amrita, Dhanush and Surya lived in the same area. Both families came into contact with each other during religious events. During this time, Amrita and Dhanush became friends, which later turned into a romantic relationship.
According to the police, Amrita later found out that Dhanush was already married, divorced, and had a child. Amrita ended the relationship and distanced herself from him after learning about his previous marriage and daughter.
Attacked by breaking into the house
Police say that Surya was angry with Amrita’s decision. He had allegedly already threatened that he would not spare Amrita if she rejected his brother’s marriage proposal.
On July 13, a dispute broke out between both parties at Amrita’s house. During this, Surya allegedly stabbed Amrita multiple times in the chest and back with a knife and tried to flee the scene.
However, local residents caught him. Amrita, who was injured, was immediately taken to the hospital by her family, where she was treated for more than 48 hours. She died on Tuesday evening.
