In a unique initiative to improve worker attendance and increase tea production, the management of Denguajhar Tea Garden in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district has launched a 75-day tea leaf-plucking competition for its workers.
The initiative aims to reduce absenteeism and encourage labourers to report for work regularly while boosting the collection of fresh tea leaves.

Tea garden launches unique worker competition
According to the garden management, workers must maintain continuous attendance for 75 days to qualify for the competition. The worker who collects the highest quantity of tea leaves during this period will be declared the winner.
The management has announced cash prizes of ₹3,000 for first place, ₹2,000 for second, and ₹1,500 for third.

Workers need continuous 75 days
To ensure transparency, a special monitoring team has been formed to track each worker’s attendance and the total weight of tea leaves collected every month. Winners will be selected based on these records.

Monitoring team tracks attendance and productivity
The tea garden authorities hope the initiative will not only increase overall tea production but also motivate workers through financial incentives and promote regular participation in plantation activities. They described the competition as a positive step towards keeping workers engaged, productive, and motivated.
