Heavy rainfall continues across India, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for 16 states, including Rajasthan, on Thursday.
Landslides were reported in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts on Thursday morning. The Kedarnath trekking route has been closed after a landslide near Gaurikund.
In Haridwar, a young Kanwariya was swept away by the strong current of the Ganga while collecting holy water. An SDRF team deployed at the ghat rescued him. In Rudraprayag, debris near Silli briefly disrupted traffic on the highway, while a car was crushed after boulders rolled down a hillside near a petrol pump.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, erosion along the Saryu River has intensified, with floodwaters entering villages. More than 100 families have evacuated to safer places. Two houses have been washed away by the river, and the ground beneath several others has eroded. In Gonda, falling water levels in the Ghaghara River have accelerated riverbank erosion, swallowing several bighas of farmland and many trees.
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, the rear wall of a government primary school collapsed during heavy rain, damaging the building. Meanwhile, a landslide near Akchamal blocked the Kargil–Leh National Highway, and traffic has been suspended.

A yellow alert is in place for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Konkan-Goa.

An orange alert is in place for East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Central Maharashtra, Konkan-Goa and Karnataka.
A yellow alert has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Vidarbha.
