Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar9 hours ago

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which emerged during the NEET-UG paper leak protests, has decided against entering electoral politics for now.

Founder Abhijeet Dipke said the organisation would continue to function as a pressure group, arguing that India currently needs a strong citizens’ pressure group rather than another political party.

Speaking ahead of a key organisational meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, Dipke said discussions would focus on reviewing the Jantar Mantar protest, expanding the organisation, and charting its future strategy.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the organisation is holding talks with the government to seek the withdrawal of FIRs filed against student protesters.

He added that arrangements are also being made to provide legal and medical assistance to those injured during the protests.

Das further said that environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk will continue to serve as CJP’s mentor, with the organisation consulting him on important decisions from time to time.

Dipke outlines CJP’s next steps, announces support for Jharkhand student protest

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the movement gained widespread public support not just because of the education issue, but because people had lost faith in the political system, the judiciary, the media and institutions such as the Election Commission.

He said the country’s political system was in a poor state and argued that only a large-scale public movement and sustained pressure could restore people’s confidence in democratic institutions. Dipke also announced that CJP would travel to Jharkhand to stand with protesting students, adding that the party supports all of their demands.

Meanwhile, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said discussions with the government are underway over the withdrawal of FIRs filed against student protesters. He added that the organisation is also preparing to provide legal and medical assistance to those injured during the protests.

Das further said that social activist Sonam Wangchuk will continue to serve as the organisation’s mentor, with CJP seeking his guidance on key issues from time to time.

13 people including Dipke, Saurav Das attended the two-day core committee meeting of CJP in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Saurav Das alleges privacy violation

The Chief Spokesperson of CJP, Saurav Das, claimed on X that some YouTubers and media channels entered his home and showed footage from inside, calling it a violation of his privacy and a threat to his family’s safety.

He said if anti-social elements attack his home, the YouTubers and those running the troll campaigns would be directly responsible.

CJP’s protest continued for 36 days at Jantar Mantar

The CJP held a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for 36 consecutive days, from June 20 to July 25. Thousands of students, parents, and youth joined the protest. Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk also joined the demonstration and went on a hunger strike.

On July 20, the CJP organised a march to Parliament. During this march, police lathi-charged students. Following the resignation of then-Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 25, the CJP announced the end of the protest.
