Children of Gen Alpha at Tikari Middle School in Gaya district of Bihar staged a unique protest demanding basic facilities in the school. Troubled by poor mid-day meals, broken benches and water problems, the school students started raising slogans.

They demanded that the SDM be called from the Tikari Subdivision Office and refused to talk to junior officers. Bowing to the courage and protest of the children, SDM Praveen Kundan came to the school and listened to the students’ complaints.

Children raised slogans against the administration

Children raised slogans against the school administration and district administration. They said that there has been a lack of essential facilities in the school for a long time. Despite complaining several times, no action has been taken.

The students said that studying without fans in the heat becomes difficult. The school’s hand pump is also broken. This creates a problem of drinking water. Benches in many classes are also broken. Due to this, children face difficulty in sitting and studying.

Instructions to resolve complaints within five days

The SDM instructed the school headmaster to resolve all the students’ problems within five days. A three-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate this entire matter.

Students Protested and Appointments Were Made

When the shortage of teachers at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School located in Mengalwa, Sayala subdivision of Jalore, was not addressed, the girl students took matters into their own hands. The students themselves started raising their voices regarding the shortage of teachers. First, the students staged a strong protest. They locked the main gate of the school for about four hours. During this time, they sat on a dharna on the main market road demanding the appointment of regular teachers.

School Lock Opened After Orders

Upon receiving information about the protest, Sayala Tehsildar, Chief Block Education Officer Nemaram Chaudhary, and ASI Rajaram reached the spot. After prolonged persuasion, a consensus was reached between the administration and the students.

The administration gave assurance to immediately appoint four teachers and to call the remaining three teachers within 10 days. After this, the girl students ended their dharna and had the school lock opened in the presence of the Chief Block Education Officer, following which the matter was resolved.
