A bomb threat triggered a major security alert at Kalyan and Mumbra railway stations on Mumbai’s Central Railway line on Monday after a caller alleged that the two stations were being targeted in a planned attack.
According to the Mumbai Government Railway Police (GRP), a man identifying himself as Brijesh Kumar called the 112 emergency helpline, claiming he had overheard three individuals discussing plans to blow up the stations.
Following the alert, Thane Police informed the Mumbai GRP, which launched a joint search operation with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the bomb disposal squad.
Security personnel carried out extensive searches at both stations but found no suspicious objects or explosive material. Authorities later said the threat appeared to be a hoax, though an investigation is underway.
Police are now working to trace and question the caller to verify the claim and determine the motive behind the bomb threat.
Kalyan and Mumbra are among the busiest stations on Mumbai’s suburban rail network, and the security alert led to heightened vigilance before normal operations resumed after the search concluded.
