1. Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit will be the Director of Intelligence Bureau

  • On 25 June, the Central Government appointed IPS officer Mahesh Dixit as the Director of Intelligence Bureau.
  • Mahesh will replace Tapan Kumar Deka, who is completing his tenure on 30 June.
  • Mahesh Dixit is a 1993 batch IPS officer. He was a doctor by profession, later joined the IPS service.
  • The Central Government has appointed Mahesh as IB Director for two years.
  • Mahesh was the head of IB’s Srinagar unit at the time of the abrogation of Article 370.
  • Intelligence Bureau is India’s internal intelligence agency, which works under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • As the head of IB, Mahesh Dixit will be responsible for counter-terrorism operations and internal security.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his name.

2. Government removes restrictions on commercial LPG supply

  • On 25 June, the central government has lifted the restrictions on the supply of commercial and industrial LPG.
  • Now LPG will be made available to hotels, restaurants, industries and other commercial buyers as before.
  • This decision has been taken after the end of the US-Iran war in West Asia.
  • Bulk LPG supply, which was stopped during the crisis, has also been restarted. Currently, it has been restored to 50% of pre-crisis consumption.
  • The Petroleum Ministry has issued instructions to oil companies to ensure uninterrupted supply.
  • During the war, the price of global crude oil had reached $120 per barrel, which has now come down to $73.75 per barrel.
  • The government has also decided to make a portion of the C3-C4 hydrocarbon stream available again to petrochemical industries while maintaining adequate availability of domestic LPG.
  • Additionally, a target has been set to maintain domestic LPG production at a minimum of 40 thousand metric tonnes per day.

3. Resignation of General Secretary and member of Ram Janmabhoomi Trust

  • On 26 June, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra resigned.
  • Both resignations came at a time when investigations are underway regarding allegations of theft of Ram Temple donations and financial mismanagement.
  • Both have left their positions taking moral responsibility due to the ongoing controversy.
  • Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested 8 people based on the first FIR registered in this case.
  • The case was registered at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Police Station on the complaint of trust member Krishnamohan.

4. India topped the ISSF Junior World Championship

  • India topped the medal table at the ISSF Junior World Shooting Championship which concluded on 26 June.
  • This competition was held in Germany.
  • India won 7 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals. India topped with 24 medals.
  • From India, Sejal Kamble won 2, while Samir, Rohit Kanyan, Vanshika Chaudhary, Navya Bishnoi and Pritam Kendre won one gold medal each.
  • ISSF, i.e., International Shooting Sports Federation, is the global regulatory body for shooting sports.

5. Roundtable meeting between India and US on AI and chips

  • On 26 June, a high-level meeting was held between India and the United States regarding technology cooperation.
  • The main topic of this discussion was Artificial Intelligence (AI) and semiconductor chips.
  • The meeting was attended by government, industry, and technology experts who discussed promoting joint investment and research in AI and chip manufacturing.
  • Both countries emphasised developing a reliable and secure semiconductor supply chain.
  • The United States assured that it would not cut the supply of AI technology to India.
  • The Secretary of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) presented India’s perspective in this.
  • The US also discussed the rollout of modern AI models like ‘Anthropic Fable’ in India.
  • Semiconductor chips are used in every modern machine from smartphones to fighter aircraft.

6. Amit Shah launches National Anti-Narcotics Roadmap

  • On 26 June, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the National Anti-Narcotics Roadmap.
  • Shah released the ‘Vision Document 2026-2029’ while chairing the 10th meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre in New Delhi.
  • Under the Vision Document, 2,09,500 kg of narcotics seized by central and state agencies will be destroyed, valued at approximately ₹6,000 crore.
  • The Vision Document (20262029) was released, which outlines the national anti-narcotics strategy for the next three years.
  • The 3 key points of the roadmap are strict action against drug trafficking, de-addiction and rehabilitation, and public awareness and prevention.
  • The objective of the roadmap is to make India drug-free by 2047.
  • For this, instructions have also been given to run awareness campaigns in schools and colleges.
  • The government will also intensify financial investigations to curb illegal earnings from drugs.
  • Representatives from different security agencies and ministries participated in the NCORD meeting.

7. Operation Amistad launched to provide assistance to Venezuela

  • On 26 June, India launched ‘Operation Amistad’ for earthquake-affected Venezuela.
  • In Spanish language, ‘Amistad’ means ‘friendship’.
  • Two C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force departed carrying relief materials. More than 35 tonnes of essential relief supplies have been sent.
  • Additionally, a 41-member special medical team of the Indian Army and a field hospital unit have been sent to Venezuela.
  • The objective of this operation is to provide immediate medical assistance and humanitarian relief to earthquake-affected people.
  • External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar announced this operation.
  • The devastating earthquake in Venezuela has claimed 235 lives so far.
  • The objective of Operation Amistad is to help Venezuela’s reconstruction efforts.
  • India and Venezuela have had long-standing bilateral relations.
