Amit Shah To Introduce Kerala Renaming Bill

Four bills will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce two bills. One of them is the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026. The other is the National Co-operative Development Corporation Act, 1962 Amendment Bill.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will introduce the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy will place a bill in the House for amendment to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.

Meanwhile, the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce this bill in the House.

All 8 MPs of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) may meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi today. Time has been sought from the Prime Minister for this meeting.

Opposition meeting today, will protest FCRA Bill

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Saturday that Congress will oppose the FCRA Amendment Bill. This issue will also be discussed in the meeting of floor leaders of opposition parties on Monday.

The FCRA Amendment Bill is expected to be introduced in the Lok Sabha in the last week of the monsoon session of Parliament. This bill will amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. According to the government, its objective is to increase transparency and accountability in the regulation of foreign donations.

Many opposition parties against FCRA Bill

Many opposition parties have opposed the FCRA Amendment Bill. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday and presented regional issues and suggestions related to FCRA.

Later, he stated that he had raised 6 issues before Shah. According to Lalduhoma, he has received clear assurance that the proposed changes will not be implemented retrospectively. Shah will begin discussions on the remaining issues in Parliament from August 12.

DMK President MK Stalin has also demanded that the central government withdraw the FCRA Amendment Bill and abolish Section 15 of FCRA, 2010. NCP (SP) has also opposed the bill.

Proceedings of the third week of the Monsoon Session

August 3: Opposition members created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha over the issue of theft of offerings from the Ram Temple. The Lok Sabha passed a bill to increase the number of Supreme Court judges (including the CJI) from 34 to 38 without discussion.

August 4: A debate took place between Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Kharge said – The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was formed by the central government. The government should respond in the House on the matter of theft of offerings.

August 5: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju held a 50-minute meeting with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. The government wants to pass the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which is related to increasing Lok Sabha seats to 816 and implementing 33% women’s reservation.

August 6: A heated debate ensued between Kharge and Rijiju in the Rajya Sabha over the demand for Amit Shah’s statement regarding the lathi-charge incident on students in Delhi. Kharge appealed to the Chairman to order the Home Minister to be called to the House.

August 7: Amid opposition uproar, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (Amendment) MSME Bill 2026 was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha. Both houses have been adjourned till Monday.

Proceedings of the second week of Monsoon Session

July 27: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held talks with leaders of opposition parties regarding the ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026’.

July 28: There was an uproar in the Lok Sabha over Pralhad Joshi being made Education Minister. Outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi said that the government has appointed a person who advocated for a rapist as Education Minister.

July 29: The ‘Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026’ related to paper leaks was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

July 30: The amendment bill related to paper leaks was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, after the Lok Sabha. Now this bill will go to the President. As soon as he gives his assent, it will become a law.

July 31: Opposition MPs protested on Friday in the Parliament complex over the theft of Ram Temple offerings. MP Pappu Yadav arrived with a donation box disguised as a priest.

Proceedings of the first week of Monsoon Session

July 20: Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Kharge, raised the issue of police action during the student protest at Jantar Mantar. He alleged that the government was ordering lathi-charge to suppress students’ voices and demanded a response from the Home Minister.

July 21: Separate meetings of the NDA and INDIA alliances were held before the start of the Parliament session. Proceedings in both houses were affected due to the uproar by the opposition.

July 22: Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, attempted to march and stage a sit-in towards the Prime Minister’s residence. Work in Parliament was also affected due to continuous protests.

July 23: NDA and INDIA alliance MPs came face-to-face in the Parliament complex. Both sides raised slogans against each other, and the atmosphere remained heated.

July 24: The ‘National Honour Disrespect Prevention (Amendment) Bill, 2026’ was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. It proposed making the insult of ‘Vande Mataram’ or obstructing its singing a punishable offense.
