Good morning! Here’s your quick catch-up on the biggest stories making headlines.

The boundary between political speech and criminal action is back under scrutiny after Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained over remarks linked to actor Trisha before the Madras High Court ordered his release within hours. The episode has reignited debate about the line between political speech and criminal action.

Back in the national capital Delhi, the E20 fuel policy has become a sharper political battleground, with Arvind Kejriwal accusing the Centre of importing ethanol from the US under pressure from President Donald Trump after Delhi Police stopped his protest march.

Also in today’s Bhaskar Smart Brief, don’t miss our coverage on why the food safety regulator FSSAI has ordered Dabur to halt sales of products carrying disputed “100% natural and pure” claims, and what the move means for consumer protection and advertising standards.

Along with these, we’ve rounded up the other top stories you need to start your day.

Udhayanidhi gets bail hours after detention in Trisha remarks case

Power and perception often collide long before the courts step in. A political jibe at a public rally has now turned into a legal battle after Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained over remarks linked to actor Trisha, shifting the row beyond politics. Udhayanidhi insists his comment referred only to the Cauvery’s waters, while police booked him under multiple legal provisions before questioning him. The Madras High Court ordered his release the same day, but the case keeps the spotlight firmly on the clash between political speech and criminal action. READ MORE

Kejriwal sits on road after police block E20 protest march

The E-20 fuel policy is fast turning into a political flashpoint, with the debate shifting from cleaner energy to questions of national interest and consumer costs. That battle sharpened after AAP leaders, led by Arvind Kejriwal, were stopped by Delhi Police while marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence.

Kejriwal accused the Centre of importing ethanol from the US under pressure from President Donald Trump, calling E20 ‘America’s waste’ forced on Indian vehicles. The government has yet to respond, but the protest signals a broader political fight over India’s ethanol policy. READ MORE

Dabur under fire as FSSAI bans misleading ‘100% pure’ claim products

When ‘100%’ becomes a marketing promise, regulators expect the evidence to match. That scrutiny has now caught up with Dabur after the food safety watchdog FSSAI ordered the company to stop selling several products carrying what it calls misleading ‘100%’ claims.

The action covers products, including honey and cow ghee, with the regulator saying labels such as ‘100% Natural’ and ‘100% Pure’ breach advertising rules. Dabur must halt sales of the identified products and report compliance within 15 days. READ MORE

Air India flight hit by violent turbulence, 12 injured

Air travel remains one of the safest ways to travel, but severe turbulence can sometimes turn a routine journey into minutes of uncertainty. That is exactly what unfolded aboard an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi, where violent mid-air turbulence left 12 passengers and crew members injured.

The pilots regained control and landed safely in Delhi, preventing a more serious outcome. While several of the injured were later admitted to hospital, the incident has again drawn attention to the growing challenge of extreme turbulence on commercial flights. READ MORE

SC cracks down on digital arrests; RBI gets 4 weeks for SOPs

A stolen click is only half the crime; recovering the money is often the harder battle. Seeking to tighten India’s response to cyber fraud, the Supreme Court has directed the RBI to prepare and circulate a standard operating procedure for handling mule accounts and other suspicious bank accounts.

The court also asked states, Union Territories and law enforcement agencies to speed up victim redressal and fund restoration. It has sought state-wise and bank-wise data on cyber fraud complaints, signalling closer judicial oversight of how such cases are handled. READ MORE
