1. N.G.J. Gangte becomes India’s new Ambassador to Mexico
- On 30 July, the Government of India appointed Ngulkhom Jathom Gangte as India’s new Ambassador to Mexico.
- Gangte is a 1994 batch IFS officer and will assume charge soon.
- Currently, Gangte was serving as Special Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
- He will replace former Ambassador to Mexico, Dr. Pankaj Sharma.
- Gangte has been India’s Ambassador to Tunisia since 2021 and simultaneously also served as Ambassador to Libya.
- He has also worked in various diplomatic positions at Indian missions in Egypt, Morocco, Ireland, and Tanzania.
- Gangte has served in the Ministry of External Affairs as Deputy Secretary, Director, Joint Secretary and Special Secretary.
Gangte served as India’s High Commissioner to Zambia from 2017 to 2021.

2. Ajinkya Rahane announces retirement from international cricket

- On 29 July, Dilip Mahadu Gavit won India’s third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
- Dilip secured first place in the men’s para T47 category 100-meter race with a time of 10.71 seconds.

- Earlier, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar had won a silver medal with a jump of 8.09 meters.

- On July 30, tech company Google launched its new AI agent ‘Gemini Spark’ in India.
- This is a 24/7 personal AI assistant that will help users with their daily tasks and is based on the 3.6 model.
- It can find local events based on user interests and automatically add details to Google Doc files.
- It can retrieve information from third-party apps for users and send alerts on specific topics.
- It can autonomously summarize meeting notes and important emails for users.
- It will run on Google’s cloud, allowing it to continue working even when the phone is locked or laptop is shut down.
- Gemini Spark can directly connect with Gmail, Docs, Sheets and other Google Workspace services.
- Currently Gemini Spark is being made available to users who subscribe to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.
- Gemini Spark has been specifically designed keeping in mind the Indian market and local needs.
- This AI tool can be useful for improving education, business and personal growth.
- Google has also introduced a selfie video sign-in feature along with this.
- According to Google, Gemini Spark will ask users for permission before tasks involving larger workloads.
6. IIT Gandhinagar signs MoU with Indian AI Research Organization
- On July 30, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) signed an MoU with India’s leading AI Research Organization (IAIRO).
- Under this MoU, both institutions will work together to enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, innovation and skill development.
- The objective of this MoU is to conduct joint research in the AI sector and provide co-supervision to PhD students.
- After this MoU, both institutions will work together for national and international research grants.
- Under this, organizing AI-related short-term courses, certificate programs, seminars, workshops and conferences.
- In this, researchers from IIT Gandhinagar will train scientists of IAIRO, while experts from IAIRO will collaborate in teaching and research at IITGN.
