Authorities on Saturday launched a demolition drive at the Amtala office of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that the building had been constructed without approved plans or valid documentation.

A large contingent of police and central security forces cordoned off the area from Saturday morning before demolition work began. Barricades were erected around the premises, and three bulldozers were brought in to carry out the operation.

According to district administration officials, notices were served to the office on June 30 and again on July 7, alleging that the structure lacked mandatory building approvals. Abhishek Banerjee was also summoned to appear before the South 24 Parganas district administration on July 15. Officials claim that no response was received to either the notices or the summons, prompting Saturday’s demolition.
Officials cite ignored notices and summons
The administration has alleged that the office was constructed without a sanctioned building plan and that no valid documents supporting the construction were submitted. The notice further stated that the land on which the office stands was purchased in the name of Leaps and Bounds, and reportedly includes the name of Abhishek Banerjee’s father, Amit Banerjee. Officials said the demolition followed repeated non-compliance with the notices.
BJP supporters cheer demolition outside office
As demolition work commenced, BJP supporters gathered near the site and raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram.” They alleged that the office had served as a hub for anti-social elements and welcomed the administration’s action.
Senior officers from the Bishnupur Police district, civil administration officials, and fire brigade personnel were present at the site to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
